The Heineken Open 2012 was a tennis tournament that took place from January 9th to 14th, 2012 in Auckland . It was part of the ATP World Tour 2012 and was played on hard court. In the same week, the Apia International Sydney was played in Sydney , which, like the Heineken Open, was part of the ATP World Tour 250 category .

In the individual, David Ferrer successfully defended his title from last year against Olivier Rochus in the final and won 6: 3, 6: 4. Rochus had previously reached the final in Auckland in 2005; at that time he lost to Fernando González .

The double winners from 2011, Marcel Granollers and Tommy Robredo , did not take part in the 2012 tournament. In the final, the top seeded Austrian duo Oliver Marach / Alexander Peya defeated number three seeded František Čermák / Filip Polášek 6: 3, 6: 2.

The field of participants in the single competition consisted of 28 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs. The four top seeded players in the singles each got a bye into the second round.
