In 2011 the tournament took place in September, with Florian Mayer in singles and Daniele Bracciali and Potito Starace in doubles. Mayer stepped up to defend his title, but already lost his opening game. In this year's final, top seeded Gilles Simon met Fabio Fognini , who had reached an ATP final for the first time in his career. Simon prevailed in two sets and won the title at this tournament for the third time after 2007 and 2008. This was his first title this year, and in total it was the tenth title of his career in twelve ATP finals. The biggest surprise of the tournament was the 22-year-old Hungarian Attila Balázs , who as a qualifier on his ATP debut immediately reached the semi-finals.
The double winners of the previous year, Bracciali and Starace, were eliminated in the first round. In this year's double-final, the top seeded Robert Lindstedt and Horia Tecău met Jérémy Chardy and Łukasz Kubot and won their first title of the year in straight sets. Overall, it was their seventh joint ATP title, for Lindstedt it was the 13th title of his career, for Tecau the tenth.
The field of participants in the single competition consisted of 28 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs. The four top seeded players in the singles each got a bye into the second round.
The qualification took place from April 21 to 23, 2012. Four qualifying places were played, which entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament. There was also a lucky loser.
