The Qatar ExxonMobil Open 2012 was a tennis tournament that took place in Doha from January 2nd to 7th, 2012 . It was part of the ATP World Tour 2012 and was played on hard court. In the same week the Brisbane International was played in Brisbane and the Aircel Chennai Open in Chennai , which, like the Qatar ExxonMobil Open, belonged to the ATP World Tour 250 category .

Roger Federer defended his title in singles . However, he could not defend his title because he was unable to play in his semi-final game against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga due to a back injury . In the final, which had to be interrupted for half an hour due to fog, he won in two sets against his compatriot Gaël Monfils . This was Tsonga's first title in Doha and the eighth ATP title of his career. Monfils, on the other hand, who had previously defeated the top seeded Rafael Nadal in the other semi-final , lost the Doha final for the second time since 2006.

In doubles, Marc López and Rafael Nadal were the defending champions. While Nadal only appeared in the individual competition this year, López played with a new partner, but was eliminated in the quarter-finals. In this year's final, Filip Polášek and Lukáš Rosol prevailed in two sets against Christopher Kas and Philipp Kohlschreiber and thus won their first joint ATP title. For Rosol it was also the first ATP title of his career, while Polášek had already won seven other titles with other partners.

The field of participants in the individual competition consisted of 32 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs.
