Sherif Sabry (born August 29, 1986 in Giza ) is an Egyptian tennis player .

Career

At the beginning of his career Sabry mainly played tournaments on the ITF Future Tour . In the first tournament of this category, which took place in Rabat, and in which Sabry could only play thanks to a wildcard , he made it into the final in doubles, where he lost in two sets. In 2005 he made further finals in Africa before winning his first title in doubles in 2006. His first participation in a higher endowed Challenger tournament he succeeded as Lucky Loser 2007 in Saransk, where he failed in the first round. At the end of 2008 Sabry had already won one Future title in singles and five in doubles. He mostly played doubles with Karim Maamoun . He also broke through the top 500 in the tennis world rankings for the first time . In the following years he won numerous other future titles, eight in 2009 alone. Success in Challenger tournaments, however, continued to fail.

Sabry celebrated his premiere on the ATP World Tour in 2011 in Doha at the Qatar ExxonMobil Open , where he made it into the main draw thanks to a wildcard. There he lost in the first round against Antonio Veić in three sets. A year later he failed again on the opening hurdle in doubles. It was only in 2014 that he was able to achieve small successes at the Challenger level. In Cali and Mohammedia he reached the quarter-finals in singles. As a result, he rose in the world rankings to his highest ranking 351 in September 2014. Since this year he has not been able to build on these successes, so that he has only won three futures in doubles since then.

2006 Sabry was nominated for the first time for the Egyptian Davis Cup team , but where he lost both matches against Hungary . Overall, he has a record of 23:19 in 24 matches. In doubles he won nine out of 17 matches, in singles 14 out of 25.
