The Abierto Mexicano Telcel 2012 was a tennis tournament that took place from February 27 to March 3, 2012 in Acapulco . It was part of the ATP World Tour 2012 and was played on clay court. In the same week the Delray Beach International Tennis Championships were played in Delray Beach and the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships in Dubai . The latter, like the Abierto Mexicano Telcel, belonged to the ATP World Tour 500 category , while the Delray Beach International Tennis Championships belonged to the ATP World Tour 250 category . At the same time as the men's tournament, a women's tournament as part of the WTA Tour 2012 took place in Acapulco in the same tournament week .

In singles, David Ferrer defended his title and won again this year. He won for the third time in a row in Acapulco, in the final he beat his compatriot Fernando Verdasco . For Ferrer this is already the third title of the season and the fourteenth career title. However, Verdasco won the doubles competition together with David Marrero , this was the second joint title after the win in Buenos Aires the week before, in the final they beat Marcel Granollers and Marc López . The defending champions from the previous year, Victor Hănescu and Horia Tecău , did not play this year.

The field of participants in the individual competition consisted of 32 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs.
