Leonardo Martin Mayer (born May 15, 1987 in Corrientes ) is an Argentine tennis player .

life and career

In 2005 Mayer began to play future tournaments regularly and in his first real professional season he won this tournament class in Santiago .

The next year he played with Challengers regularly and reached the final in Puebla, which he lost to Robert Kendrick .

After a moderate start to the 2007 season, with four defeats at the start in a row, Mayer recovered. At the end of the year he was in the top 200 (189) of the world rankings after two tournament victories.

In 2008, Leonardo Mayer reached at least the quarter-finals of the Challenger tournaments relatively regularly and was also able to survive the first round of an ATP tournament in Kitzbühel . In the end he was able to celebrate a tournament victory at the Challenger in Medellin and 102nd place in the ATP world rankings.

The next year he achieved his breakthrough with victories against established players such as Carlos Moyá , Igor Andrejew , Mardy Fish and James Blake . The highlights of the season were the opening victories at three Grand Slam tournaments and reaching the semi-finals in Los Angeles . Due to these successes, he was able to close the year in the top 100.

In 2016 he won the Davis Cup with the Argentine Davis Cup team . In the final against Croatia he played doubles alongside Juan Martín del Potro . The duo lost 0: 3; However, Argentina won the final 3-2.
