Federico Coria (born March 9, 1992 in Rosario ) is an Argentine tennis player .
Career
Federico Coria, whose older brother Guillermo Coria was also a professional tennis player and number three in the world in May 2004, started tennis at the age of five. In the juniors he was in Wimbledon in both singles and doubles in the main field, but lost his opening match. His best placement in the junior world rankings was a combined 55th place.
In 2009 Coria made his debut on the third rate ITF Future Tour and was able to reach several semi-finals and finals, especially in doubles at the beginning. In the years that followed, he continued to improve in the world rankings thanks to successes on the Future Tour and finally made it into a main field of the higher endowed ATP Challenger Tour in Cali for the first time . The following year he reached his first quarter-finals on the Challenger Tour in Santiago de Chile and finished the year in 353rd place.
After stagnating in the rankings in 2015 and not being able to win any other titles, he won his first title on the Challenger Tour in 2016. At the side of his compatriot Tomás Lipovsek Puches , he won the double competition in Campinas with a two-set win against the top seeded pairing Sergio Galdós and Máximo González . In 2017 he started qualifying at Wimbledon and the US Open , but failed both times due to his opening opponent. In the middle of the year he achieved his best position to date in singles with a 223rd rank as well as in doubles with a 275th rank.
He made his debut on the ATP World Tour in Lyon in May 2018 . He moved up into the main field as a lucky loser and surprisingly defeated Nicolás Kicker , then number 84 in the world, in three sets. In June, Coria was banned for eight months and fined $ 10,000 for violating tennis anti-corruption programs, with six months suspended. In 2015, he was offered money at a future tournament if he lost a set. He did not accept the money, but did not report the incident either. After his two-month suspension he won his ninth individual title on the Future Tour in August without losing a set.
He won his first individual title in Savannah in May 2019 . In the final he prevailed in three sets against the second seeded Paolo Lorenzi . With the 216th place he reached a new career record.
