Facundo Mena (born September 22, 1992 in Buenos Aires ) is an Argentine tennis player .

Career

Mena started playing tennis at the age of six and made it to the 2010 ITF Junior Tour at the French Open to qualify for the singles , but where he failed in the first round. He also started in doubles alongside Karue Sell , but was also defeated in his opening encounter. This was his only Grand Slam tournament as a junior. His best place was a combined 79th place.

Mena has been playing tournaments on the ITF Future Tour since 2009, and won his first title two years later in singles. This was followed by seven more single and 13 double titles. From 2010 he had a few appearances in doubles on the higher endowed ATP Challenger Tour , in which he has not yet made it past the quarter-finals. He stayed in the top 600 in the world rankings during this period. Due to the successes on the Future Tour, he continued to improve in the world rankings, so that he could compete more often on the Challenger Tour. In Buenos Aires in 2016 he was in a double semifinal for the first time with Camilo Ugo Carabelli , but lost to the pairing Sergio Galdós and Fernando Romboli . A year later he also made the first semi-finals in the individual. In Quito he was eliminated there against Gerald Melzer .

2019 should be the most successful year so far for Mena. In singles he reached the semi-finals in San Luis Potosí and Augsburg before he celebrated his first title win in September. In Como he made his first place in the final, where he defeated the Slovak Andrej Martin in three sets. Shortly thereafter he was in the top 200 for the first time and reached a new career high with 195th place. In doubles, he lost his first final game in Banja Luka in September against the French pairing Sadio Doumbia and Fabien Reboul . His best double placement is a 238th place.
