Pedro Sousa (born May 27, 1988 in Lisbon ) is a Portuguese tennis player .

Career

Pedro Sousa mainly plays on the ATP Challenger Tour and the ITF Future Tour . So far he has celebrated three single and five double victories on the Future Tour. On November 18, 2013 he was in the top 200 of the world rankings for the first time (rank 199).

He made his debut in singles on the ATP World Tour in April 2007 at the Estoril Open , where he received a wildcard for the main draw, but failed there in the first round to Igor Kunitsyn . His next appearance on the World Tour followed in 2011 at the Estoril Open , when he was able to qualify for the main draw, but there failed in the first main round to Juan Martín del Potro in just three sets. In 2012 and 2013, he also lost his opening games at the Estoril Open , each with a wildcard .

He made his first appearance at the World Tour level with Gastão Elias , with whom he formed a double, in April 2007 also at the Estoril Open . There the two reached the quarter-finals after a "walkover" in the first round, where they lost to Marcelo Melo and André Sá 5: 7 and 3: 6. The next double appearance followed again in 2009 at the Estoril Open , this time losing smoothly to João Sousa's side . In 2010 he played in Estoril at the side of Leonardo Tavares , with whom completely surprisingly reached the semi-finals, which they lost to Pablo Cuevas and Marcel Granollers . Also in 2011-2013 he received a wildcard each time, but could not end a main round game victoriously with changing double partners.

Pedro Sousa has played for the Portuguese Davis Cup team since 2006 . For this he has a balance of 4: 1 in singles and 1: 0 in doubles after five matches.
