Thomas Schoorel (born April 8, 1989 in Amsterdam ) is a former Dutch tennis player .

Career

singles

In 2007 Schoorel played his first tennis match in qualifying for the ATP tournament in 's-Hertogenbosch . In the first round he beat his compatriot Wouter Standaart 6: 3, 6: 2, then he lost to Antony Dupuis 6: 7, 3: 6. In July he competed in the qualification for the tournament in Amersfoort , where it was the last stop in round 1 against Ralph Grambow. In the course of the year Schoorel also played several future tournaments, in Mexico he reached the semi-finals in November, otherwise he was eliminated relatively early.

In 2008 there were further attempts to achieve success on the Future Tour, as well as further qualifying matches in Zagreb , but Wolches Schoorel lost, and in Amersfoort, where he reached the second round. The left-hander also played his first Challenger match in Alphen aan den Rijn , but lost there in round 1.

In 2009 Schoorel won his first future tournament in his home country on clay in the final against the French Vincent Millot . His second title followed in Germany in July, and he won this tournament without losing a set.

2010 began for Schoorel with two future finals and the title in Italy in April, and he was also able to win this tournament without losing a set. In May he played the qualification for the ATP tournament in Nice , where he failed in Round 2 to Robby Ginepri . In June he won two future tournaments in the Netherlands, in July he reached his first Challenger final in Scheveningen, but failed there to Denis Gremelmayr with 5: 7, 4: 6. In Alphen aan den Rijn he was also in the final, but lost to Jesse Huta Galung in three sets. After another failed attempt to qualify for an ATP tournament in Bucharest , the Dutchman finally made it into the main draw in Stockholm in October , where he had no chance against Benjamin Becker with 3: 6, 0: 6. At the end of the year he also played the qualification for the tournament in Montpellier , but he was eliminated there in the third round against Adrian Mannarino .

2011 started for Schoorel with the qualification for the tournament in Doha , in the first main round he managed 6: 7, 3: 6 in the first set against the favored Roger Federer . He could not qualify for the Australian Open , but in Rotterdam he started in the main draw , but lost to Viktor Troicki 2: 6, 6: 7. In Marseille he again managed to qualify, but here too it was the end of round 1 against Tobias Kamke . In April Schoorel won two Challenger tournaments in Rome and Naples . In May he played the qualification for the French Open , where he defeated Chris Guccione , Frederik Nielsen and Jorge Aguilar without losing a set. In the first round he defeated the Argentine Máximo González 7: 6, 6: 3, 6: 3 and moved into the second round, where he was defeated by Stan Wawrinka 3: 6, 2: 6, 4: 6.

In the period that followed, Schoorel was plagued by injuries, including his elbow and hip. So he underwent an operation on his hip, the subsequent comeback was unsuccessful. On June 29, he finally announced the end of his career.

Double

In doubles, Schoorel was able to win a Challenger tournament together with Robin Haase . In Manerbio in August 2010, the duo beat Diego Junqueira and Gabriel Trujillo Soler 6: 4, 6: 4. Schoorel played his only match at ATP level together with Huib Troost in Amersfoort in 2008, but there they lost to Teimuras Gabashvili and Denis Mazukewitsch 2: 6, 4: 6 in the round of 16 .
