Teimuraz Gabashvili Besikowitsch ( Georgian თეიმურაზ გაბაშვილი Teimuraz Gabashvili , Russian Теймураз Бесикович Габашвили ; Engl. Transcription Teymuraz Gabashvili Besikovich * 23. May 1985 in Tbilisi , Georgian SSR ) is a Russian - Georgian tennis player .

Life

Gabashvili was born in Georgia and moved to Moscow with his family when he was ten . He was among other things as a substitute in the squad of the Russian Davis Cup team for the 2007 final against the United States . He made his first appearance for the team in 2009.

Career

From 2001 to 2003 Gabashvili only played in future tournaments for young players. In 2002 he celebrated his first tournament victory in doubles, a year later he won five competitions, four of which were singles and one double.

In 2004 he made his debut on the ATP Tour and was also able to win his first Challenger tournament in Tolyatti . Since then he has been in Challenger finals several times, some of which he won. In July 2006 he was able to place himself in the top 100 of the world rankings for the first time, even if only for two weeks . In spring 2007 he was again among the top 100 and held this position for over seven months.

In the summer of 2007 he reached a final on the ATP tour in the doubles competition in Indianapolis for the first time, but lost to the doubles Juan Martín del Potro and Travis Parrott with Ivo Karlović . In addition, he defeated a player from the top 10 for the first time in his first round win at the US Open 2007 with Fernando González , at that time number seven in the world rankings, in the second half of the year he was often eliminated in the first round and fell around the turn of 2007 / 08 down to the ranks around 130.
