The Abierto Mexicano de Tenis Pegaso 2000 was the 7th edition of the tennis clay court tournament in Mexico City . It was the last time this tournament was held in Mexico City, the next year the location moved to Acapulco. As a tournament of the International Series Gold, the tournament was part of the male ATP series after it was not held as part of the ATP Tour in 1999 . It took place at the same time as the Axa Cup in London from February 21 to 28, 2000 on hard court. The prize money was $ 700,000 for both the singles and doubles tournaments. In singles, 32 players competed against each other, in doubles there were 16 pairings.

Defending champion from 1998 in singles and doubles was the Czech Jiří Novák , who did not compete again this year. Instead, the Argentine Juan Ignacio Chela won the first title of his career.

The top seeded Donald Johnson and Byron Black won in doubles , succeeding Jiří Novák and David Rikl .
