The Tennis Masters Series Indian Wells 2000 was the 24th edition of the Indian Wells Masters . The tournament was played on hard court and was part of the ATP Masters Series of the male ATP Tour as well as a Tier I classified tournament of the female tennis professionals on the WTA Tour , which was the highest category at the time. For the first time, the tournament was marketed under the same name for both sexes.

Both women's and men's tournaments took place from March 13th to 20th, 2000 in the recently opened Indian Wells Tennis Garden facility in Indian Wells . The main field consisted of 64 participants.

Defending champion in the men's singles was the Australian Mark Philippoussis , who failed in the semifinals against the Swede Thomas Enqvist . In the women's category, the American Serena Williams won the title the year before .

While for the men Àlex Corretja celebrated his first tournament success this season with a final victory against Thomas Enqvist, for the women Lindsay Davenport defeated the Swiss Martina Hingis . The doubles competitions were won by the all-American doubles Alex O'Brien / Jared Palmer and Lindsay Davenport / Corina Morariu . Davenport succeeded for the second time after 1997 winning the single and double tournament of the same year, it was the 28th single and 29th double success of her career. For Corretja it was the first title of the season and the 10th of his career.
