Harel Levy (* 5. August 1978 in Kibbutz Nachschonim ) is a former Israeli tennis player .

Life

Levy started playing tennis when he was seven. He has lived in Ramat Hasharon since 1992 . The 1.85 m tall, right-handed man turned pro in 1995 despite serving in the Israeli military at the same time. By 1999 he had already won several futures and a challenger each in singles and doubles.

In 2000 his only title followed on the ATP World Tour . In Newport with Jonathan Erlich he won the doubles competition. A little later he also achieved his greatest individual success when he failed at the Masters in Toronto only in the final to Marat Safin . As a result, he rose to rank 70 in the world rankings . He was the first Israeli in a World Tour final since Amos Mansdorf in 1994. In August 2000, his military service ended. By June 2001 he reached another semi-final in Scottsdale and the final in ATP Nottingham , which he achieved his highest ranking with rank 30.

After these successful years, each of which he finished in the top 100, he fell back in singles - also because of a stubborn hip injury - so that he was rarely in the top 200 until the end of his career. He was a bit more successful in doubles: of his 22 Challenger titles, he won 18 doubles and was also able to hibernate in the top 100 three times.

In Grand Slam tournaments he had little success. In the individual, he only reached a maximum of the second round. In doubles, he made it to the quarter-finals at Wimbledon in 2007.

Because of his injury, he announced his resignation on March 1, 2011.

He played a total of 21 matches for the Israeli Davis Cup team . With 20:16 wins his balance in singles is positive, with 3: 4 wins in doubles, however, negative. He played a major role in Israel's 2009 semi-finals .
