Eric Taino (born March 18, 1975 in Jersey City , United States ) is a retired Filipino tennis player .

Career

He already celebrated major successes in his junior years. With Jimmy Jackson he won the doubles competition at the US Open in 1992 . He began his professional career in 1997. He won a total of twelve tournaments on the ATP Challenger Tour , three in singles and nine in doubles with changing partners. In doubles he reached a final several times on the World Tour . In 1998 he moved in Bogotá with Gábor Köves for the first time in a final, which they lost against Diego del Río and Mariano Puerta in three sets. In June and July 1999 two more finals followed in Merano with Marc-Kevin Goellner and in Gstaad with Aleksandar Kitinov . Taino lost both games with the respective partner in two sets. In October of the same year he won his only title on the tour with Max Mirny . In Singapore , a World Tour 500 tournament , they defeated Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde 6-3 and 6-4. In 2000, two more finals followed in San José with Lucas Arnold Ker and in the Queen's Club with Jonathan Stark .

In the 2001 season Taino again reached the final at the Queen's Club with David Wheaton . He reached his highest placements in the world rankings with rank 122 in singles on November 3, 2003 and rank 52 in doubles on April 24, 2000. In Grand Slam tournaments , he never got beyond the first round in singles, but he also stepped only in 2000 and 2001 in the main draw of the US Open . Between 1999 and 2002 he reached the second round several times in the doubles competition at the Australian Open , the French Open and the US Open. At Wimbledon , he always failed in the opening round. In 2006 he took part in the Asian Games in Doha , where he won the bronze medal in a double competition. At the side of Cecil Mamiit , he had to admit defeat in the semifinals of the Indian pairing Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes .

Between 2006 and 2008, Taino played a total of ten games for the Philippine Davis Cup team . He won eight of his ten singles games and four of his six games in doubles. He completed all double games alongside Cecil Mamiit. His last mission was against Uzbekistan in April 2008 .
