Eric Nunez (born April 9, 1982 in Saint Petersburg , Florida ) is a retired American tennis player .
Career
Eric Nunez played on the ITF Junior Tour until 2000, where he also took part in some top-category tournaments, but where he had little success. In the ranking list he achieved his best result with 99th place.
After his junior career, from 2001 he began to play more often for the professionals. This year he won a tournament of the third-class ITF Future Tour in singles for the first time , and at the end of 2002 he made it into the top 500 of the tennis world rankings . In doubles he reached an equally good level: in 2002 he made his second place in the finals on the higher endowed ATP Challenger Tour and was able to win his first title at this level in the second attempt in North Miami Beach . In 2004 he got another future title. The only appearance of his career on the ATP Tour had Nunez at the beginning of 2005 at the tournament in Delray Beach , when he lost in the first round to the Dane Kenneth Carlsen .
Nunez experienced the most successful year in 2006. After winning his last two future titles in the individual competition in 2005, he was 364th in the world rankings at the beginning of the year. Four times - in São Paulo , Bogotá , New Orleans and Nashville - he was able to reach the semi-finals on the Challenger Tour, which made him his career best in November with 199th place. In doubles he reached his best value of 178th place at the same time, after he had reached three Challenger finals and won one of them, in Manta . Until the end of his career in 2011, he stayed in the top 500 doubles. In 2008 and 2010 he was able to win a Challenger title each. In 2008 he was twice in a Challenger semi-final before he steadily lost places in the world rankings.
After his career, Nunez took a position at the USTA in 2012 as a junior coach .
