Cristiano Caratti (born May 24, 1970 in Acqui Terme ) is a former Italian tennis player .

Life

Caratti was a successful junior player. In 1987 he won the doubles competition at the Orange Bowl International Championships , the unofficial youth world championships, alongside Gábor Köves . The following year he reached the double -finals of the junior tournament of the French Open on the side of Goran Ivanišević , as well as on the side of Cristian Brandi the semi-finals of the junior tournament of Wimbledon .

In 1989 he became a professional tennis player and already played relatively successfully on the ATP Challenger Tour in his first year , reaching the singles finals in Dublin and the double finals in Fürth . On the Challenger Tour between 1990 and 2000, he won a total of seven individual titles and one double title. He was less successful on the ATP World Tour . Although he reached the double final in Genoa in 1990 and the individual final in Milan the following year , he was unable to achieve an ATP title in the course of his career. He reached his highest ranking in the tennis world rankings in 1991 with position 26 in singles and in 1990 with position 148 in doubles.

His best individual result in a Grand Slam tournament was reaching the quarter-finals of the Australian Open in 1991. Here he won the round of 16 over the favored Richard Krajicek in five sets and was finally eliminated in five sets against Patrick McEnroe .

Caratti was once appointed to the Italian Davis Cup team . In the first round game of the world group, which Italy won 4-1 against Spain , he was used in two individual games. He lost the first game against Emilio Sánchez in just five sets. The second individual, in which Italy's victory was already certain, he won against Sergi Bruguera in three sets. At the 1992 Summer Olympics , he competed in singles for Italy, but lost to Guy Forget in the first round .
