Joseph Sirianni (born January 17, 1975 in Melbourne , Victoria ) is a retired Australian tennis player .

Career

Joseph Sirianni began his professional career with appearances on the third and second rate Future and Challenger Tour . On the Future Tour he was able to celebrate his first successes early on by winning a tournament in both singles and doubles in 1998. In total, he was able to achieve 4 singles and 14 doubles on the Future Tour. He had to wait a little longer for his first title on the Challenger Tour. It was not until 2003 that he won his first title alongside Rogier Wassen in Reggio nell'Emilia . This was followed by eight more titles in doubles and two in singles by 2010.

Sirianni made his debut at Grand Slam level in 1999 when he received a wildcard for the individual field of the Australian Open . In the first round he met the then number 54 in the world rankings Mariano Zabaleta and had to admit defeat in five sets in a close match. In total, he took part in the Australian Open five times. In 2008 he celebrated his greatest success in singles on the ATP World Tour in Adelaide . He made it to the semi-finals by defeating Paul-Henri Mathieu , who was then number 24 in the world. There he was defeated by the eventual tournament winner Michaël Llodra in two sets. In the same year he also reached his highest position in the world rankings with position 138. A year later Sirianni received together with Andrew Coelho again a wildcard for the Australian Open . They managed a surprise by making it into the round of 16 and in the second round were able to clearly beat the 5th placed duo Jeff Coetzee and Wesley Moodie in two sets. In the round of 16 they lost in three sets against the Italians Simone Bolelli and Andreas Seppi . In the same year he made it into the main draw of the Wimbledon Championships together with Alessandro Motti as Lucky Loser . In the first round, however, they clearly had to admit defeat to Alexander Peya and Philipp Petzschner in three sets. In the world rankings he scratched the top 100 in doubles with rank 107 at the end of the year. In 2011 he did not qualify for any Challengers, where he started to reach the main field and then ended his career shortly afterwards.

After his active career, Sirianni was the hitting partner of Ana Ivanović and Eugenie Bouchard .
