The 2014 Rakuten Japan Open Tennis Championships was a tennis tournament held in Tokyo from September 29th to October 5th, 2014 . It was part of the 2014 ATP World Tour and was played outdoors on hard courts. In the same week the China Open was played in Beijing , which, like the Rakuten Japan Open Tennis Championships, belongs to the ATP World Tour 500 category .

Defending champion in singles was Juan Martín del Potro , in doubles the duo Rohan Bopanna and Édouard Roger-Vasselin .

The field of participants in the individual competition consisted of 32 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs.

Qualification for the 2014 Rakuten Japan Open Tennis Championships took place on September 27th and 28th, 2014. Four qualifying places in the individual competition and one place in the doubles competition were played, which entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament.
