Defending champion in the singles was Novak Đoković , who broke the series of Rafael Nadal in last year's final , who had previously won the tournament eight times in a row. He was eliminated in the semifinals against Roger Federer , who in turn lost the final against his compatriot Stanislas Wawrinka in three sets. For Wawrinka it was already the third title this year. The defending champions Julien Benneteau and Nenad Zimonjić were in doubles .
The field of participants in the single competition consisted of 56 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 24 pairs. The eight top seeded players in singles or pairings in doubles each got a bye into the second round.
The qualification for the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters 2014 took place on April 12th and 13th, 2014. Seven qualifying places were played, which entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament.
