In this year's final, he was defeated by world number one Novak Đoković , who was able to end Nadal's series of 46 victories in a row in Monte Carlo. The defending champions in doubles were the American brothers Bob and Mike Bryan , who won the tournament for the last two years. Also this year they reached the final again, but lost to Julien Benneteau and Nenad Zimonjić .
The field of participants in the single competition consisted of 56 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 24 pairs. The eight top seeded players in singles or pairings in doubles each got a bye into the second round.
The qualification for the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters 2013 took place on April 14th and 15th, 2013. Seven qualifying places were played, which entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament.
