The Aircel Chennai Open 2014 was a tennis tournament that took place in Chennai from December 30, 2013 to January 5, 2014 . It was part of the 2014 ATP World Tour and was played outdoors on hard courts. In the same week the Brisbane International was played in Brisbane and the Qatar ExxonMobil Open in Doha , which, like the Aircel Chennai Open, belonged to the ATP World Tour 250 category .

The defending champion in the singles was the Serbian Janko Tipsarević , who was unable to defend his title due to a chronic heel injury that he suffered in his first round encounter against Marcel Granollers at the Valencia Open in October 2013 . Meanwhile, the top seeded Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka celebrated his second title in Chennai and his fifth individual title of his career. In the final he defeated the number seven seeded Frenchman Édouard Roger-Vasselin in two sets with 7: 5 and 6: 2. In doubles, the single winner Stanislas Wawrinka and his French partner Benoît Paire were the defending champions, who met the top-seeded duo in the first round and lost 9:11 in the decisive set. The winner was the Swedish-Danish doubles Johan Brunström and Frederik Nielsen , who defeated the Croatian duo Marin Draganja and Mate Pavić in three sets in the final . While Brunström was able to celebrate his fourth double title, it was only his second tournament success on the ATP World Tour for Nielsen after his surprising win at Wimbledon in 2012 .

The field of participants in the single competition consisted of 28 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs. The four top seeded players each received a bye into the second round.
