Kyle Edmund (born January 8, 1995 in Johannesburg , South Africa ) is a British tennis player .

Career

Edmund was able to win a Grand Slam tournament twice in the junior division . He won the US Open in 2012 and the French Open in 2013 , alongside the Portuguese Frederico Ferreira Silva , in the doubles competition. He has been playing regularly on the ATP World Tour since 2013 and won his first game at this level in his second tournament. In Eastbourne he defeated the French Kenny de Schepper in two sets in his opening game . In the second round he was eliminated by Gilles Simon . For the Wimbledon Championships 2013 he received a wildcard from the tournament officials for both the single and the double competition and thus competed in a professional Grand Slam tournament for the first time. In the singles he lost his first round match against the Poland Jerzy Janowicz clearly in three sets. In doubles he played alongside Jamie Baker and was also eliminated clearly in three sets in the first round.

Edmund celebrated his greatest success to date at the Australian Open in 2018 , where he reached the semifinals after beating number three on the seeding list, Grigor Dimitrov . There he was defeated by Marin Čilić in three sets. In April he reached his first final on the World Tour in Marrakech , where he lost to Pablo Andújar 2: 6, 2: 6. A month later he won his first Tour title in doubles. At the side of Cameron Norrie he defeated Wesley Koolhof and Artem Sitak 6: 4, 6: 2 in the final of Estoril . In October he also secured his first ATP title in the singles in Antwerp .

He made his debut for the British Davis Cup team in 2015 in the final against Belgium , which ended 3-1 for Great Britain. Edmund lost the opening game against David Goffin in five sets.
