Cameron Norrie was born in South Africa to a Scottish and Welsh woman; his family moved to New Zealand shortly afterwards when he was an infant. Until 2013 he played for the local association u. a. on the ITF Junior Tour, where he was able to advance to 10th place. At the age of 15, Norrie moved to Europe alone and played a few tournaments - a little later he made another tour to Asia. He then moved to Great Britain and from then on joined the local association. There he lived with a host family for two years and trained at the National Tennis Center in Great Britain. In 2013 he received a tennis scholarship from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth , Texas , where he climbed to number 1 in college tennis on the NCAA rankings, making him the best college tennis player. After completing his studies, Norrie became a professional tennis player.
2013–2016: The beginnings
During the semester break as a student, the British-born player played a number of futures and challenger tournaments. In 2014 in Adelaide he was able to qualify for a Challenger tournament for the first time and reach the second round. At the tournament he defeated Matt Reid for the first time, a top 200 player. In 2015 he won his first Future, and in early 2016 two more. In mid-August, Cameron Norrie celebrated his greatest success to date. In Aptos he fought his way through the qualification and only failed in the final against Daniel Evans . He jumped into the top 300 in the world rankings . At the end of the year he also took part in the finals in doubles in Columbus . He finished the year 278th in singles and 574th in doubles.
From 2017: Premiere on the World Tour
In January, Norrie was able to reach another Challenger semi-final in Maui , where he had to bow to Taro Daniel . In June in Surbiton he succeeded against the world number 71. Malek Jaziri his biggest win so far; in the last sixteen, however, he lost against Serhiy Stachowskyj in straight sets. Two weeks later he made his debut on the ATP World Tour through a wildcard at the Queen's Club . Here he had few chances against Sam Querrey and lost 1: 6, 4: 6. He won his first title on the ATP Challenger Tour in Binghamton when he beat the top seeded Australian Jordan Thompson in three sets in the final. Through this success he made it into the top 200 of the world rankings for the first time.
