Matt Reid (born July 17, 1990 in Sydney ) is an Australian tennis player .

Career

Reid made his debut on the ATP World Tour in the men's doubles at the Australian Open 2009 alongside Dane Propoggia . They lost their opening game against Igor Kunizyn and Zhang Ze in straight sets 4-6 and 4-6. His first victory at this level he celebrated four years later, also at the Australian Open , where he defeated the duo James Duckworth and Chris Guccione in the first round alongside Sam Groth . In the world rankings, he moved up 183 places to 327, which was his best position in the double ranking up to that point. After his first title on the ATP Challenger Tour, he moved up over 70 places. He won together with his doubles partner Groth at the tournament in Adelaide, Australia . Two months later, on April 6, 2013, his second title followed on the Challenger Tour. With his new partner Chris Guccione at his side, he won against the Indian doubles Purav Raja and Divij Sharan in León, Mexico . In October of the same year, he won the title in Sacramento with John-Patrick Smith . With Smith he immediately won the doubles competition in Burnie at the beginning of the 2014 season . At the same time he was also successful in the individual. In the final, he defeated Hiroki Moriya in straight sets and thus secured his only individual title on the Challenger Tour. At the end of the year he won the double competition in Yokohama alongside Bradley Klahn . In 2015 he defended the Burnie title with Caren Ball and also won the doubles tournament in Toyota with Brydan Klein .

In the 2016 season , Reid scored a total of six tournament wins in doubles on the Challenger Tour. With John-Patrick Smith he won the titles in Seoul , Binghamton , Tiburon , Traralgon and Toyota . He was also successful with Brian Baker in Las Vegas . In 2017 he only managed to win a tournament on the Challenger Tour with John-Patrick Smith in San Francisco in February , but in July in Newport he made it to a final on the World Tour with Smith for the first time. In this they were defeated by Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and Rajeev Ram with 4: 6, 6: 4 and 7:10. After Reid was in the main draw of the French Open for the first time and had reached the second round in both Wimbledon and the US Open , he moved up to his career record of 60th place in the world rankings. The following season, Reid secured title wins on the Challenger Tour in Aptos (with Thanasi Kokkinakis ), Cassis (with Serhij Stachowskyj ) and Champaign (with John-Patrick Smith). In 2019 he won the doubles competition in Puerto Vallarta with Smith .
