Career

In 2008 Barton played his first tournament on the ITF Future Tour in Australia, but lost 6-0 and 6-0 in the first round. After that, a year passed for him without a professional match before he qualified for the Burnie Challenger tournament in February 2010 and only failed there in the last round. In the course of the year played a few future tournaments, but only reached a quarter-finals once. The tennis year 2011 was not overwhelming for him either, with the exception of a semi-final at a future tournament in Australia. The year 2012, however, was more successful again: He was able to qualify for the main draw at various Challenger tournaments and also win his first future tournament. In the final he beat his compatriot Samuel Groth in two sets with 7: 6 3 and 6: 3. Barton finished the year at position 429 in the tennis world rankings . Since 2013 he has occasionally participated in the qualifications of tournaments of the ATP World Tour , but has never made it into the main draw of a tournament. In February 2013 he celebrated his first title in the ATP Challenger Tour category. At the tournament in his home town of Adelaide , he won the final against James Ward in straight sets and secured important points for the world rankings. After his win in Burnie, Barton moved up over 100 places to position 242.
