Luis David Martínez (born May 12, 1989 in Barquisimeto ) is a Venezuelan tennis player .

Career

At the beginning of his career, Martínez only played tournaments on the third-class ITF Future Tour , where he was significantly more successful in doubles. So far he has won 21 double titles on the Future Tour. After playing occasional tournaments of the second-rate ATP Challenger Tour in 2008 and 2010 , he was able to take part in Challenger Tour tournaments more regularly from the 2014 season . His only success was at the beginning of the year reaching the finals in Manta , where he lost. The following year Martínez played more tournaments on the Future Tour, where he won eight titles. Through these successes, he was able to improve by almost 100 places, so that he ended the year on the 247th place in the world rankings .

2016 began for him with another final defeat in Bucaramanga . He now played tournaments on the Challenger Tour thanks to his improved ranking. At the beginning of the year he was able to improve his ranking through small successes and achieved his best placement in May with a 176th place. However, it could not maintain this level, which is why it fell out of the top 300 again at the beginning of 2017. In August of the same year, Martínez celebrated his first title win at Challenger level. In Santo Domingo , he and his partner Juan Ignacio Londero prevailed against the Colombian pairing Daniel Elahi Galán and Santiago Giraldo in two sets. In March 2018 he was in a Challenger final in Drummondville , but had to admit defeat to Joris De Loore and Frederik Nielsen in two sets.

Martínez has been playing for the Venezuelan Davis Cup team since 2009 , where he has individual statistics of 7: 7 and doubles of 15: 2.
