The Aircel Chennai Open 2016 was a tennis tournament that took place in Chennai from January 4th to 10th, 2016 . It was part of the ATP World Tour 2016 and was played outdoors on hard courts. In the same week the Brisbane International and Doha the Qatar ExxonMobil Open were played in Brisbane , which, like the Aircel Chennai Open, belonged to the ATP World Tour 250 category .

Stan Wawrinka was able to defend his title in the individual. Oliver Marach and Fabrice Martin won doubles after Lu Yen-hsun and Jonathan Marray won the title the previous year .

The field of participants in the single competition consisted of 28 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs. The four top seeded players each received a bye into the second round.

qualification

The qualification took place on January 2nd and 3rd, 2016. Four qualifying places were played, which entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament.
