The Swiss Indoors Basel 2016 was a tennis tournament that took place in Basel from October 24th to 30th, 2016 . It was part of the ATP World Tour 2016 and was played indoors on a hard court. In the same week, the Erste Bank Open was played in Vienna , which, like the Swiss Indoors, belonged to the ATP World Tour 500 category . The venue for the tournament was the St. Jakobshalle , which is located just behind the Basel city limits in Münchenstein .

Last year's winner in singles was Roger Federer , in doubles it was Alexander Peya and Bruno Soares . Federer was unable to take part in the tournament to defend his title due to an injury.

The field of participants in the individual competition consisted of 32 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs. The total financial commitments were 2,151,985 euros, the prize money was 1,701,320 euros.

qualification

The qualification took place on October 22nd and 23rd, 2016 in the St. Jakobshalle . Four qualifying places in the individual competition and one place in the doubles competition were played, which entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament.
