Pierre-Hugues Herbert (born March 18, 1991 in Schiltigheim ) is a French tennis player .
Career
Herbert was initially successful on the Challenger Tour . There he collected two titles in singles and with different partners 14 titles in doubles, four of them with Albano Olivetti . He made his Grand Slam debut in doubles at the 2011 French Open alongside Renavand. In 2014 he qualified for the Gerry Weber Open , where he won the first round against Jerzy Janowicz from Poland . In the last sixteen he lost to Philipp Kohlschreiber .
In 2015 he reached the final of the doubles competition at the Australian Open with his compatriot Nicolas Mahut . They lost the final against the Italian duo Simone Bolelli and Fabio Fognini in straight sets. With Nicolas Mahut he won the US Open on September 12, 2015 and thus his first Grand Slam title; with Mahut he also won the tournament at the Queen's Club . In the following season he won the Masters in Indian Wells , Miami and Monte Carlo with Mahut , and again the tournament at the Queen's Club . At Wimbledon , Herbert and Mahut secured their second joint Grand Slam victory after beating Julien Benneteau and Édouard Roger-Vasselin in the final . In the world rankings he reached second place behind Mahut through these sustained successes. In 2017 he won three Masters tournaments. In the 2018 season he won the French Open with Mahut and reached the final of the ATP Finals , which they narrowly lost. At the beginning of the 2019 season he won with David Goffin in Doha before he won his fourth Grand Slam title with Nicolas Mahut at the Australian Open . In doing so, he and Mahut completed the so-called career grand slam , winning all four grand slam tournaments.
In the quarter-final match against the Czech Republic in July 2016 , he made his debut for the French Davis Cup team alongside Nicolas Mahut . The following year he won the Davis Cup with France.
