Lucas Pouille (born February 23, 1994 in Grande-Synthe ) is a French tennis player .

Career

Since 2013, Pouille has played on the ATP World Tour frequently . He received a wildcard for the tournaments in Montpellier and Marseille as well as for the French Open . While he was eliminated in the first round of the first two tournaments, he made it into the second round of the French Open, in which he lost to the Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov . In the first round he had defeated the American Alex Kuznetsov in three sets.

In 2016 he played for the French Davis Cup team for the first time in the quarter-finals against the Czech Republic . He won his debut game against Jiří Veselý in three sets.

The 2017 season was extremely successful for Pouille. In Budapest he achieved his first tournament success on clay. In June he won his first tournament on grass in Stuttgart after he had to fend off a match point against Jan-Lennard Struff in the round of 16 . With his win in Vienna , he is the only player this season to have won a tournament on all three surfaces. In Marseille he reached the final.
