Ben Peter Anthony Tozer (born March 1, 1990 in Plymouth ) is an English football player who plays for Northampton Town on the position of defender.
Career
Swindon Town
Born in Plymouth , Tozer began his career as a youth player with his local club Plymouth Argyle . Former Argyle youth coach David Byrne, who had a similar role at Swindon Town at the time , persuaded the Tozer family to let Ben play for Swindon.
On August 14, 2007 Tozer made a surprise debut for Swindon as a provisional left-back in the League Cup game against Charlton Athletic . In November 2007 Tozer started a four-day trial at Everton , but returned in time for Swindon's FA Cup game against the Forest Green Rovers .
Newcastle United
Tozer moved to Newcastle United on January 7, 2008 , where he signed a four-year deal. Tozer sat on the bench against Everton on May 11, but was not used. On September 22, 2009 Tozer made his debut as a central defender for Newcastle against Peterborough United in the League Cup .
Northampton Town
On September 21, 2010 Tozer signed a one month loan deal with Northampton Town . Tozer made his debut the next day in the Cobblers' surprising victory over Liverpool FC in the third round of the League Cup . The following Saturday he scored on his league debut against Bradford City (2-0). In the game against Hereford United on October 16, Tozer saw the red card for assault and was suspended for three games. Tozer signed a permanent contract with Northampton on June 23, 2011 after his contract with Newcastle was not renewed. At Sixfields Stadium , the home of Northampton Town, Tozer is the undisputed darling of the public.
From November 28 to December 22, 2013 Tozer was loaned to Colchester United to help out as a defender over the Christmas season. His only league game for Colchester he completed on December 13 in the 4-0 defeat by Notts County , when the score was 2-0, he was replaced in the 68th minute.
