The Forest Green Rovers (officially: Forest Green Rovers Football Club ) are an English football club . The club is based in the town of Nailsworth in the west of England . They currently play in the EFL League Two , the fourth highest division in England, and play their home games at The New Lawn .

The United Nations recognized the Forest Green Rovers as the first climate-neutral football club in the world in 2018 , the club is vegan : the jerseys used are made of bamboo fibers, the sausage in the stadium is made of tofu, and the energy required comes from completely renewable energy sources.

history

The Nailsworth & Forest Green FC were founded in 1890 and initially played in the Stroud & District League before they became a founding member of the Gloucestershire Northern Senior League in 1922 . The championship was won here in 1938, 1950 and 1951. In 1968 the club became a founding member of the Gloucestershire County League . In 1974 the club rose to the Hellenic Football League . 1982 succeeded there the championship title, which was connected with promotion to the Southern League Midland Division . In the same year, he won the FA Vase . Between 1989 and 1992 the club briefly changed its name to Stroud FC. In 1996, the club moved to the Southern Division , whose champions he was a year later. After promotion to the Premier Division , the direct march through to the Conference National followed . In 1999 and 2001 the team reached the final of the FA Trophy , but had to admit defeat both times. By reaching the finals in 1999 they became the first club to reach the final in the FA Vase and the FA Trophy.

In the 2016/2017 season, the Forest Green Rovers reached 3rd place in the National League and thus qualified for the play-off. Here the team beat Dagenham & Redbridge in the semi-finals and moved into the final, in which the Tranmere Rovers could be defeated 3-1. Thus, the Forest Green Rovers qualified for the 2017/2018 season of the EFL League Two .

sustainability

After the club was taken over by Dale Vince in 2010, “the topic of sustainability was integrated into the club” in order to “make a target group aware of the risk of climate change.” To this end, red meat was first removed from the offers in 2013 and later completely removed No animal products: The food and beer have been vegan since then. According to the company, four times more food is now being sold in the stadium than before the changeover.
