Career

Aston Villa (1985-1994)

Tony Daley made his debut on April 20, 1985 at the age of 17 for his hometown club Aston Villa in the Football League First Division 1984/85 . The fast winger earned a regular place in the 1982 European Cup winners in the following two seasons . 1986/87 rose Daley (33 games / 3 goals) with Villa as bottom of the table in the second division. In return , the club achieved direct promotion in the Second Division as runner-up behind Millwall FC. After a close relegation in the 1988/89 season , the team around David Platt and Tony Daley (29 games / 5 hits) won the runner-up behind Liverpool in 1989/90 and thus qualified for the European Cup. In the 1990/91 UEFA Cup , Villa failed in the second round 2-0 and 3-0 to what would later be the titleholders Inter Milan . The club reached another runner-up in the newly introduced Premier League in 1992/93 behind Manchester United . After a second round in the 1993/94 UEFA Cup (1-1 and 0-1 against Deportivo La Coruña ) Villa moved into the final of the English League Cup 1993/94 . In the final in front of 77,231 spectators at Wembley, coach Ron Atkinson's team defeated Manchester United 3-1 after goals from Dalian Atkinson and Dean Saunders (two times). Tony Daley was used for over 90 minutes and celebrated the first title win of his career.

Further stations (1994–2002)

On June 6, 1994, 26-year-old Tony Daley moved to Wolverhampton Wanderers, trained by ex-national coach Graham Taylor, for £ 1,250,000 . For the second division, however, he played only twenty-one league games until 1998, as injuries kept him away from the game. In the 1998/99 season he scored a goal in twelve missions for Watford FC and rose with his team by a 2-0 in the play-off final against Bolton Wanderers in the Premier League. Daley missed the end of the season again due to an injury. After further positions at FC Walsall and the lower class Forest Green Rovers , he ended his career in the summer of 2002.

English national team (1991-1992)

Tony Daley made his debut on November 13, 1991 in qualifying for the 1992 European Championship against Poland in the English national team. After four appearances in preparation games, he was appointed to the English EM squad by national coach Graham Taylor . Daley played two games against Denmark (0-0) and Sweden (1-2) during the 1992 European Football Championship in Sweden and was eliminated with England after the preliminary round. In the following years he did not play another international match.
