Football League First Division 1985/86

The Football League First Division 1986/87 was the 88th season of the highest English football league . It began on August 23, 1986 and ended on May 11, 1987.

The Everton won with nine points ahead of city rivals and defending champions Liverpool FC 's now ninth championship. All three newly promoted Norwich City , FC Wimbledon , Charlton Athletic were able to keep the class, with Norwich and Wimbledon in particular surprisingly well placed with fifth and sixth place, while Charlton was still in a play-off round against the second division side Ipswich Town and Leeds United had to claim. Leicester City , Manchester City and Aston Villa had to move into the Second Division . Because of the subsequent league reduction from 22 to 21 teams, the three relegated teams for the following season were only opposed to the two second division promoted Derby County and Portsmouth FC .

A total of 523 players were used, with Arsenal having the least with 19 and Tottenham Hotspur with 31 the most players in league games. 135 newcomers were opposed to 102 footballers who last came into play in the 1986/87 season. 19 players were able to play all 42 league games of their club.

The championship team of Everton FC

The following list lists all players who played in a league game for Everton during the 1986/87 season. It must be noted that in English football a minimum number of games is usually required in order to receive the official championship medal. Since there was uncertainty about the specific regulation before the introduction of the Premier League, all players who presumably did not receive a championship medal due to their low contribution were marked with an asterisk (*). The number of missions and the goals scored are given in brackets.
