Patrick William Roger "Pat" Van Den Hauwe (born December 16, 1960 in Dendermonde ) is a former Welsh football player.
Player career
Birmingham City
Pat Van den Hauwe made his professional debut for the English first division club Birmingham City on October 7, 1978 . In the further course of the Football League First Division 1978/79 he completed seven games before City relegated as the penultimate from the first division. Van Den Hauwe, who was rarely used in the following two years, only established himself in the 1981/82 season as a regular in his team, which had meanwhile returned to the First Division. Birmingham missed relegation again in the First Division 1983/84 and Pat Van Den Hauwe moved to Everton at the beginning of the season 84/85 .
Everton FC
He joined Everton in September 1984 for a £ 100,000 transfer. His first season in Liverpool was already a great success. Together with his teammates Neville Southall , Trevor Steven and Gary Stevens , he won the championship in the Football League First Division in 1984/85 . Coach Howard Kendall's team secured another title in the 1984/85 European Cup Winners' Cup when Everton beat Rapid Vienna 3-1 in the final in Rotterdam . In addition, the team reached the final of the FA Cup 1984/85 , but lost it 0-1 against Manchester United . Due to numerous misconduct by English hooligans, which culminated in the Heysel disaster , all English clubs were excluded from the European Cup from the 85/86 season. Everton therefore missed participation in the European Cup . But the club won after the runner-up in 85/86 behind Liverpool and another final defeat in the FA Cup 1985/86 , in the Football League First Division 1986/87 sovereign the championship title. In the 1988/89 FA Cup , Everton moved into the final again, but Van Den Hauwe had to accept his third defeat in the final in this prestigious competition.
Tottenham Hotspur
In 1989, after five successful years in Liverpool, he moved to Tottenham Hotspur for £ 575,000 and reached third place in the First Division in 1989/90 with his new team . The following season was disappointing in the league with tenth place, but Pat Van Den Hauwe won the FA Cup for the first time in his fourth appearance in the final in 1990/91 . In the final, the team led by England internationals Gary Lineker and Paul Gascoigne beat Nottingham Forest 2-1 after extra time. In the 1991/92 European Cup Winners' Cup , Tottenham failed in the quarter-finals against the Dutch cup winner Feyenoord Rotterdam .
Millwall FC
In 1993 he switched to the English second division club Millwall , with whom he only missed promotion to the Premier League in the 93/94 season through a play-off loss to Derby County . After another season in the second division, he ended his professional career in England and then played in South Africa.
