Markus Spanier
Markus Spanier OSB (* 1961 in Kaiserslautern ) is a German Benedictine . He is the 50th abbot of Marienberg Abbey and the sixth abbot of the South Tyrolean Benedictine Abbey from Ottobeuren Abbey .
Life
Markus Spanier joined the Bavarian Benedictine Abbey of Ottobeuren in 1993 . He made his profession in Ottobeuren in 1994 and was ordained priest in 1997 . In 2006 he became prior of the Marienberg Benedictine Abbey in South Tyrol ; After Abbot Bruno Trauner resigned for health reasons , Spanier was appointed administrator for the period of the Sedis vacancy from October 12, 2011 . On November 19, 2011, the electoral chapter of the monastery elected Father Markus Spanier as the new abbot of the Marienberg Benedictine Abbey in the Mals district of Burgeis in Vinschgau in South Tyrol, Italy, which has existed since 1147 . The term of office is 12 years. The abbot 's benediction was given to him by the Bishop of Bozen-Brixen, Ivo Muser , on December 8, 2011.
