Football League First Division 1964/65

The Football League First Division 1965/66 was the 67th season of the highest English football league . It began on August 21, 1965 and ended on May 19, 1966.

The Liverpool won six points clear of the chasing Leeds United and Burnley 's now seventh English championship. Of the two promoted Newcastle United and Northampton Town only the club from Newcastle could hold the class; in addition to Northampton, the Blackburn Rovers had to go into the Second Division . These two clubs should be replaced in the following season by the two second division promoted Manchester City and FC Southampton .

A total of 479 players were used, with Liverpool FC having the fewest with 14 and Everton FC having the most players in league games with 26. 95 newcomers were opposed to 102 footballers who last came into play in the 1965/66 season. 16 players were able to play all 42 league games in their club.

The championship team of Liverpool FC

The following table lists all players who played in a league game for Liverpool FC during the 1965/66 season. It must be noted that in English football a minimum number of games is usually required in order to receive the official championship medal. Since there was uncertainty about the specific regulation before the introduction of the Premier League, all players who presumably did not receive a championship medal due to their low contribution were marked with an asterisk (*). The number of missions and the goals scored are given in brackets.
