Alexander Derek Dougan (born January 20, 1938 in Belfast , † June 23, 2007 in Wolverhampton ), called The Doog , was an Irish football player. He played in the center forward position in the 50s and 60s.

Dougan began his career in the Irish League in 1954 at the Northern Irish football club Lisburn Distillery . In 1957 he moved to Portsmouth FC in the Football League Division 1. From 1959, he played in this top English division for three seasons for Blackburn Rovers and then for Aston Villa (1961 to 1963). From 1963 to 1976 he was with Peterborough United (until 1965, 3rd Division), but then again in the top division with Leicester City (1965 to 1967) and Wolverhampton Wanderers under contract. During the nine years with the Wolves, he was loaned to the American Football League and the Republic of Ireland . From 1958 to 1973 he played in the Northern Irish national team . After the end of his active career, he worked as a player- coach at Kettering Town.

He scored 222 goals in 546 games. No other Northern Irish player has scored more goals in the English league. He also scored for Distillery (17 times), while according to recent findings he only played a friendly game for Shamrock Rovers . This was important because on that day, on Dougan's initiative, an all-Irish selection in the Rovers jersey went to an international match against Brazil , albeit an unofficial one . Nevertheless, Dougan is probably not one of the players with more than 200 first division players, even if the two USA trips are still being evaluated.
