The Sonnenspitze , also Ehrwalder Sonnenspitze , is 2417  m above sea level. A. high mountain of the Mieminger chain in Tyrol with a secondary peak, the 2412  m high signal peak to the south . The ascent of the Sonnenspitze is one of the most popular tours in the Mieming chain.

location

The Sonnenspitze is located south of the village of Ehrwald at the northwesternmost end of the Mieming chain. To the west is the town of Biberwier , to the east is the Seebensee, which is 1657  m high . To the south, after the Biberwierer Scharte ( 2000  m ), the Wampete Schrofen ( 2520  m ) follows .

Climbs

The summit can be reached from the Coburger Hütte (1917 m) in easy, but partially exposed climbing (places UIAA II ) via the south side. The path is marked and completely secured with stands and a few hooks as intermediate safety devices. Sometimes the markings are difficult to find, which is why a good sense of direction is required for the ascent. A crossing is equipped with a short wire rope insurance. Once at the top, there is still a very narrow and exposed summit ridge to cross to get to the summit cross. This requires absolute freedom from giddiness.

Another path leads from Seebensee over the northeast ridge to the summit. It is recommended as a descent if you exceed it. It leads over long distances through steep grass slopes, the top 100 meters in altitude are easy climbing (UIAA II places). This part is also partly very well marked and secured with new stands.

Some climbing routes lead over the south ridge and through the west face .
