David George Herd (born April 15, 1934 in Hamilton , † October 1, 2016 in Middlebie ) was a Scottish football player .
Career
The striker comes from a football dynasty. His father Alec Herd played for Manchester City and his uncle Sandy Herd was a Scottish international. Herd began his career with Stockport County in 1950 . During this time he played with his own father. In 1954 the Scot moved to Arsenal . He made his debut for the Gunners in 1955 against Leicester City . The Scot remained loyal to the gunners until 1961 . For the 1961/62 season he moved to Manchester United . The first competitive game for ManU he gave against West Ham United on August 19, 1961. Herd was twice English cup winners, one time English champions and won the championship cup with Manchester United. After a broken foot, Herd was rarely used and so it happened that he moved to Stoke City at the beginning of the 1968/1969 season. He let his career end with Irish club Waterford FC .
Internationally, he played five times for the Scottish national football team .
After retiring, he briefly trained Lincoln City .
