Football League First Division 1959/60

The Football League First Division 1960/61 was the 62nd season of the highest English football league . It began on August 20, 1960 and ended on April 29, 1961.

The London club Tottenham Hotspur won the second English championship in the club's history with eight points ahead of Sheffield Wednesday . Both newly promoted Aston Villa and Cardiff City were able to keep the class; instead, Newcastle United and Preston North End had to move into the Second Division . These two clubs should be replaced in the following season by the two second division promoted Sheffield United and Ipswich Town .

A total of 522 players were used, with Tottenham Hotspur with 17 the fewest and Newcastle United with 34 the most players in league games. 129 newcomers faced 134 footballers who last came into play in the 1960/61 season. 18 players were able to play all 42 league games of their club.

    The Tottenham Hotspur championship team

The following list lists all players who played in a league game for Tottenham Hotspur during the 1960/61 season. It must be noted that in English football a minimum number of games is usually required in order to receive the official championship medal. Since there was uncertainty about the specific regulation before the introduction of the Premier League, all players who presumably did not receive a championship medal due to their low contribution were marked with an asterisk (*). The number of missions and the goals scored are given in brackets.
