Kenneth Rees "Ken" Barton (born September 20, 1937 in Caernarfon , † September 6, 1982 in Chester ) was a Welsh football player . On the right side of defense, he was part of the extended squad of Tottenham Hotspur , which won the 1961 "double" from the English championship and FA Cup . However, he did not get a noteworthy chance and was overshadowed by "long-running" Peter Baker .

Athletic career

Barton played in January 1954 for the north London club Tottenham Hotspur and was then employed there from May 1955 as an amateur. In October 1956 he signed his first professional contract with the "Spurs", but it would be a long time before his first-team debut. He was always in the shadow of Peter Baker as a defender on the right and in his one-time injury-related absence during the 1960/61 season, he played his first league game against Manchester United . This year Tottenham won the "double" from the English championship and the FA Cup. Since Barton's contribution was almost insignificant, he did not receive an official title holder medal. In the following three years he played only three more games - two in the 1961/62 season and on the penultimate matchday of the 1963/64 season when the Spurs "went down" violently 7-2 against Burnley FC .

In September 1964 Barton moved to the east of London for Millwall FC . There he did not get a chance at all and in December 1964 it went on to the third division Luton Town . For this club he completed eleven league games, but rose in the 1964/65 season in the fourth division . Shortly thereafter, Barton turned his back on professional football when he joined the amateur division at Dunstable Town .

Barton died prematurely shortly before his 45th birthday in Chester.
