Football League First Division 1950/51

The Football League First Division 1951/52 was the 53rd season of the highest English football league . It began on August 18, 1951 and ended on May 3, 1952.

Manchester United won their third English championship by four points over their London-based pursuers Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal FC . Both newly promoted Preston North End and Manchester City were able to hold the class; instead, Huddersfield Town and Fulham FC had to go into the Second Division . These two clubs should be replaced in the following season by the two second division promoted Sheffield Wednesday and Cardiff City .

A total of 507 players were used, with Preston North End with 19 the fewest and Portsmouth FC with 28 the most players in league games. 117 newcomers opposed 98 footballers who last came into play in the 1951/52 season. 20 players were able to play all 42 league games of their club.

    The Manchester United championship team

The following table lists all players who played for Manchester United in a league game during the 1951/52 season. It must be noted that in English football a minimum number of games is usually required in order to receive the official championship medal. Since there was uncertainty about the specific regulation before the introduction of the Premier League, all players who presumably did not receive a championship medal due to their low contribution were marked with an asterisk (*). The number of missions and the goals scored are given in brackets.
