Henry Cockburn (born September 14, 1921 in Ashton-under-Lyne , Lancashire , † January 20, 2004 in Mossley ) was an English football player .

career

After attending Stamford High School, Cockburn began his career at Goslings United. In 1943 he moved to Manchester United as an amateur and received his first professional contract in 1944. Due to the Second World War , he made his league debut in 1946, in the same year he had his first international match with England against Northern Ireland .

His greatest successes with Manchester United were the FA Cup in 1948 and the English Championship in 1952. In 1954, Cockburn left Manchester and then moved to Bury FC , Peterborough United and Corby Town , where he ended his active football career in 1960.

After his playing days he worked as an assistant coach at Oldham Athletic and Huddersfield Town . In the 1960s, Cockburn played cricket for the Ashton Cricket Club.
