Football League First Division 1952/53

The Football League First Division 1953/54 was the 55th season of the highest English football league . It began on August 19, 1953 and ended on April 26, 1954.

The Wolverhampton Wanderers won the first English championship in their club history by four points ahead of local rivals West Bromwich Albion . Both newly promoted Sheffield United and Huddersfield Town could hold the class; instead, Middlesbrough FC and Liverpool FC had to move into the Second Division . These two clubs should be replaced in the following season by the two second division promoted Leicester City and Everton FC .

A total of 534 players were used, with Burnley FC with 20 the fewest and Portsmouth FC with 32 the most players in league games. 124 newcomers opposed 143 footballers who last came into play in the 1953/54 season. 18 players were able to play all 42 league games of their club.

    The Wolverhampton Wanderers' championship team

The following list lists all players who were used in a league game for Wolverhampton Wanderers during the 1953/54 season. It must be noted that in English football a minimum number of games is usually required in order to receive the official championship medal. Since there was uncertainty about the specific regulation before the introduction of the Premier League, all players who presumably did not receive a championship medal due to their low contribution were marked with an asterisk (*). The number of missions and the goals scored are given in brackets.
