Thomas Taylor (born January 29, 1932 in Barnsley , † February 6, 1958 in Munich ) was an English football player .

life and career

Tommy Taylor was one of the Manchester United players who died in the crash of BEA Flight 609 . He began his football career for one of his employer's football clubs - a coal mine called Smithies United. At the age of 16, Taylor received an offer from Barnsley FC . In 1953, the center forward came to Manchester United for a record sum of around € 44,000. Taylor scored two goals on his debut. After very successful games with the Red Devils, his coach and manager at the time, Matt Busby, received an offer from Inter Milan for the equivalent of around € 95,000 , which Busby turned down. Up until his death, Taylor played 19 times for the English national football team and scored 16 goals. In total, he played 191 times for ManUnited and scored 131 goals. The center forward was a member of the English national team for the 1954 World Cup in Switzerland and was eliminated from the selection in the quarter-finals.
