The Football League First Division 1954/55 was the 56th season of the highest English football league . It began on August 21, 1954 and ended on May 30, 1955.
Chelsea FC won the English championship for the first time in the club's history by four points ahead of pursuers Wolverhampton Wanderers , Portsmouth FC and Sunderland . Of the two promoted Everton and Leicester City only the club from Everton could hold the class; with Leicester, Sheffield Wednesday had to go into the Second Division . These two clubs should be replaced in the following season by the two second division promoted Birmingham City and Luton Town .
A total of 526 players were used, with Chelsea FC, Huddersfield Town and Portsmouth FC with 20 the fewest and Sheffield Wednesday and Arsenal FC with 30 the most players in league games. 116 newcomers opposed 107 footballers, who last came into play in the 1954/55 season. 16 players were able to play all 42 league games in their club.

The championship team of Chelsea FC
The following list lists all players who played in a league game for Chelsea during the 1954/55 season. It must be noted that in English football a minimum number of games is usually required in order to receive the official championship medal. Since there was uncertainty about the specific regulation before the introduction of the Premier League, all players who presumably did not receive a championship medal due to their low contribution were marked with an asterisk (*). The number of missions and the goals scored are given in brackets.
