Dody Michael Wood (born May 8, 1972 in Chetwynd , British Columbia ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player . During his career he played for the San Jose Sharks in the National Hockey League .

Career

Wood first played three years from 1989 to 1992 in the Western Hockey League for the Seattle Thunderbirds and Swift Current Broncos . During this time he was selected by the San Jose Sharks in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft in the third round in 45th position. A successful 1990/91 season had contributed to this, in which he had collected 65 points, but also 272 penalty minutes in 69 games. The following season Wood reached another 246 penalty minutes, but this time in only 40 games.

For the 1992/93 season Wood switched to the professional sector in the Sharks franchise . The left winger was mostly in the farm team , the Kansas City Blades from the International Hockey League , until the 1997/98 season , but was also repeatedly in the NHL squad San Joses. In six seasons, with the exception of the 1993/94 season , in which he did not play an NHL game, he came to 106 NHL appearances and 18 points. During the 1997/98 season he moved with Douglas Bodger to the New Jersey Devils , who in exchange gave Ken Sutton and John MacLean to San Jose. Wood did not play any more NHL games there and therefore left North America in the summer of 2001.

The Canadian signed a contract with Ayr Scottish Eagles in the British Ice Hockey Superleague before joining the Nottingham Panthers after a year within the league . For the 2003/04 season he returned to North America. After a few appearances for various teams in different minor leagues , he finally ended his career in summer 2004.
