Kenneth William "Ken" Sutton (born November 5, 1969 in Edmonton , Alberta ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player . During his career between 1987 and 2006 he played for the Buffalo Sabers , Edmonton Oilers , St. Louis Blues , New Jersey Devils , San Jose Sharks and New York Islanders in the National Hockey League and the ERC Ingolstadt in the German Ice Hockey League .
Career
Sutton played during his junior career only one year in the 1988/89 season for the Saskatoon Blades of the Western Hockey League . With the team he also took part in the Memorial Cup tournament this season , in whose all-star team he was selected. After the end of the season, which the defender completed with 53 points in 71 games, he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1989 in the fifth round in 98th position by the Buffalo Sabers .
After a season with the Rochester Americans , the Buffalos farm team from the American Hockey League , the Canadian made it to the NHL cadre of the Sabers in the 1990/91 season . In this he established himself in the 1994/95 season, which was shortened by the lockout , and completed his personally most successful NHL year in the 1993/94 game year with 24 in 78 games. During the 1994/95 season, in April 1995, Sutton was transferred for Scott Pearson to the Edmonton Oilers in his hometown. These gave him up after only nine months in a transfer deal to the St. Louis Blues . This was followed by further changes to the New Jersey Devils , San Jose Sharks , back to New Jersey and the New York Islanders , for which he was only partially used. During this time he had his best year in the 1998/99 season, which he spent almost entirely in the AHL. He was elected to the league's First All-Star Team at the end of the season and also received the Eddie Shore Award for best defender. At the end of the 2000/01 season he won the Stanley Cup with the New Jersey Devils , although he had only played six NHL games for the team during the entire season. After spending the 2001/02 season in the Islanders franchise , he returned to New Jersey as a free agent for the Devils in the summer of 2002 .
Since he did not come to a single NHL mission, he moved to Europe in the spring of 2003. He played three years for ERC Ingolstadt from the German Ice Hockey League before ending his career after the 2005/06 season.
